Terms of Service

Last updated November 1, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and HBI INC ("we", "us"), which makes DYOB. They cover the website, the online app, the mobile and desktop apps, and the API (together, "DYOB"). By creating an account or using DYOB, you agree to them. If you use DYOB for a business, you agree for that business too.

1. What DYOB is

DYOB is software for keeping your own books: sales, purchases, banking, payroll, reports and the like. You enter, review and approve what goes into your books. DYOB is a tool, not tax, legal or accounting advice, and it doesn't replace an accountant. Suggestions, including from the AI assistant and automatic filing of bank lines, can be wrong; check them before you rely on them or file anything.

2. Your account

You must be at least 18 and able to agree to these terms. Keep your password and API keys safe; you're responsible for what happens under your account, including what people you invite do. Tell us right away at support@dyob.io if you think someone else has gotten in.

3. Free trial

Each entity you add starts with a free trial. We don't charge during the trial. When it ends, the entity's books become read-only until you choose a plan.

4. Plans and billing

  • Online plans are priced per entity and billed monthly or yearly in US dollars, in advance. Prices are on our pricing page.
  • A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the price you signed up for, until you cancel. If we ever change that price, we'll email you at least 30 days before it applies to you.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. We don't see or store your full card number.
  • Prices don't include sales tax or similar taxes; where they apply, they're added at checkout.
  • If a payment fails, we'll keep trying the card. If it still hasn't gone through 14 days after the period ended, the entity's books become read-only until it's paid.
  • A Founding Member price lasts as long as you keep that subscription. Discounts and free periods we give end on the date we told you.
  • A desktop license is a one-time purchase for the number of companies and devices it lists, with updates for the period it lists.

5. Canceling and refunds

You can cancel anytime. Your plan runs through the period you've paid for and then doesn't renew. What we refund, and how to ask, is on Refunds and cancellation, which is part of these terms.

6. Read-only books

When nothing pays for an entity (its trial ended, its plan was canceled and the paid period is over, or a payment is more than 14 days late), its books become read-only. You can still open, print and export everything; you can't add or change entries until a plan is chosen. We don't delete read-only books because of this.

7. Your data

Your books and files are yours. You give us permission to store, copy and process them only to run DYOB for you, to keep it secure, and to support you when you ask. You can export your books anytime, including after you cancel. We don't sell your data. Our Privacy policy explains what we collect and who helps us run DYOB.

8. Bank and card connections

If you connect a bank or card account, the connection is made through Stripe Financial Connections. You authorize us to receive that account's transactions and balances so DYOB can show and file them. You can disconnect at any time. Banks and Stripe can change or stop a connection; when that happens, you can still import statements yourself.

9. Acceptable use

Don't use DYOB for anything illegal, to keep books for money laundering or fraud, to break or overload it, to get into accounts that aren't yours, or to copy or resell it. Use the API within the limits we publish. We may suspend an account that does these things, and we'll tell you why unless the law says we can't.

10. Our software

We own DYOB and everything in it other than your data. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use it under these terms while your account is in good standing. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.

11. Changes and availability

We keep improving DYOB, so features change. We work to keep it running and your data backed up, but we can't promise it will never be down or never have a bug. If we make a change that takes away something important you pay for, we'll tell you first, and you may cancel and get a refund for the time left on a yearly plan.

12. Disclaimers

Except as these terms say, DYOB is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows. You're responsible for the accuracy of your books and for your tax filings.

13. Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, neither we nor anyone who works with us is liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, arising from DYOB. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

14. Ending this agreement

You can stop using DYOB and delete your account at any time. We may end these terms or close an account for a serious breach of them, after telling you and, where it makes sense, giving you a chance to fix it. When an account closes, you have 30 days to export your books, unless the law requires otherwise.

15. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll post the new version here and email you at least 30 days before it applies. Using DYOB after that means you accept the new terms.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Utah, and you and we agree to those courts' jurisdiction.
